Circus Media formed a partnership with Deakin University to offer a formal internship program for students studying PR, communications, marketing and design, with a placement available every two months throughout the year exclusively for Deakin students.
We are lucky to have two students currently interning at Circus Media; Emily [read Emily’s blog post here] who is predominately working with Geelong Community Foundation, of which our owner Carly is on the Board of Directors, and now Catherine, who will be assisting our Account Managers on exciting campaigns leading up to Christmas. Yes… Christmas!
We are thrilled to have Catherine, our third successful applicant, officially begin her internship as part of this program. Hear from Catherine below.
“Hello, I’m Catherine Aikman and I am currently in my second year of studying a Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations). I’m 20 years young, was born and raised in the regional Victorian town of Bendigo and am well and truly blessed with the life I live. I love to shop, I love coffee, I love cats (and all animals pretty much), I love to go on adventures and I love spending time with my friends, family and my boyfriend, Ryan.
The best word to describe me is an extrovert. I enjoy a good chat about a range of topics, and I particularly love having a ‘D&M’ with pretty much anyone. Some would describe me as bit of an ‘open book’.
I’ve always been the type of person to want to give advice, manage things, have responsibilities and watch my work develop. Growing up, I was an odd kid. I was the only kid I knew who liked politics and the only kid I knew whose favourite part of the school camp to Canberra was the Parliament House, not Questacon. In that, I decided I wanted to do something in politics, but seeing the ordeal that takes place in the political landscape, I decided I’d rather do something else where I can exercise the things I love doing, but without the backstabbing and bitterness. Hence, I chose to study PR, and I haven’t looked back.
Whilst I’m extremely privileged to be studying at Deakin in Geelong, I’m also extremely fortunate to receive an internship position at Circus Media. This will be an amazing experience and one that text-books and lecture theatres cannot give me. They say if you get a job you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. Whilst writing this blog post on my second day here at Circus Media, I already know that I’m certain this is the field I want to work in and that it’s something I will love.
Circus Media was advertised on Deakin’s internal job-seeking page, and as soon as I read the internship description and about Circus Media, I knew I wanted to apply. Circus Media seemed like a modern, trendy and cultured firm that would be extremely valuable to me in my PR journey.”
